What customers say?

“ Mom’s Special Cooking is one of those quiet North Austin gems you’re glad you didn’t overlook. Tucked into an old, unassuming building way south of Little Saigon/Chinatown off Lamar, it doesn’t advertise loudly — the food does that job. We went vegetarian and let the enthusiastic owner guide the order, which was absolutely the right move. One dish featured delicate vermicelli noodles tossed with mixed vegetables in a savory brown sauce; the other paired vegetables and egg over rice. Both were beautifully balanced, comforting, and confidently seasoned — simple on the surface, deeply satisfying in execution. Inside, the space is bright, clean, and welcoming, and the hospitality feels genuinely personal. This is Burmese home cooking done with care, not flash. Low expectations turned into a memorable meal. We’ll be back — and next time, we’re letting Mom choose again. ???????? ”

“ WOW incredible! I was only recently introduced to Burmese food by some friends in San Fransisco, and I'm so glad we found Mom's Special Cooking in Austin! The dry Shan noodle was so flavorful, the green tea salad had so many yummy textures, the salt and pepper dish and shrimp tasted like beer battered fish n chips with Chinese salt and pepper seasoning on top, and the Mohinga soup was so unique and comforting. And the Rainbow Ice dessert was very refreshing with so many flavors and textures. "Mom" is so sweet too, so warm and friendly. ”
